PETA …………People For The Ethitical Treatment By Assholes ……..
By tophac | May 6, 2008
Along the way the PETA decided that it’d be in its best interest to be burdensome rather than being a proactive organization that represented the well being animals. And as much as this organization says that it stands for the rights of animals and their well being and treatment. The prostestations surrounding that of the death of the filly Eight Belles at the Kentucky Derby ran at Churchills Down in Kentucky is ill advized at best.

As an organization PETA is a noteworthy one but along the way the scruples and morals that it sets out to portray and avow to represent seems to have been lost on a number of issues. Though the loss of second placed finisher Eight Belles was a tragic one . It’d seem that PETA would like to apportion blame on the filly’s death on her jockey Gabriel Saez. The apparent loss was due to an unforeseen accident and nothing more beyond that.

It’s somewhat worrisome when claims are being made and there’s nothing to substantiate the claims being made by the protestors. Claims that the Saez abused the horse are totally unfounded. Though not unprecedented it comes at a time when thoroughbred racing is going through a rather tough time at present. On Friday there was the death of another equine at Churchill Downs but yet PETA sees fit to make allegations that it can no way substantiate. But yet is the way of a news cycle and the best way to attain the notoriety you seek. Something that’s becoming ever more prevalant within our social realm . If you say it then it becomes so even if you can never allude to the truth at the time. Not unlike the political atmosphere of Washington .

And though the accident was beyond most sporting fans’ understanding it can be said even now we’re at a loss to really explain what happened on the course at the time. It paints a story that many try to explain though few are reluctant to state the cure to the ills that happens in the world of horse racing as a whole. The NTRA the governing body of equine racing in North America has done little to deal with instances where a loss of horse becomes common place. As much as they alleged that they do it sometimes doesn’t appear to be enough for many have something to say about this very subject.

Much of what PETA does is very respectable but at the same time it can be said that much of their presence in the public’s eyes is merely there for the publicity and the public’s consumption. And if nothing else it’s certainly what drives them to do much of what they do. But it can be said when they’re at the forefront of situation that’s deserving of our awareness they make sure that all of the facts are there for us to peruse. But here I do believe that they’re in a position where they’re in an impossible situation to win this particular argument. An argument that they were ill served to try and make a case for . What they’ve failed to understand was that this was a tragic accident that took place at an event . That had it been otherwise elsewhere it wouldn’t have garnered the slightest attention within the public domain.

Their bringing to light of the USDA’s cover up of the meat packaging crisis and that of the unhealthy way that bovines were being treated within processing plants wouldn’t have come to our attention had they not risen our awareness of the problem. So in some respects there are balances and counterbalances to each and every topic. But it appears that PETA very much likes to cherry pick the issues it prefers to bring to our attention if only at times to get their point across without first ever really giving us any sort of an informed argument as to much of their reasoning.

al…The PETA puffers are publicity whores. Any event that gets big attention, they’ll show their ass. They want the general dog-loving public to think they’re this right minded group of animal lovers. They don’t broadcast the fact that their solution to dog and cat overcrowding is to gas ‘em. This they do at an unbelievable rate every day.
I love dogs too. Those of us who aren’t sociopaths probably cried as kids over Dino or Rowdy going off to doggie heaven. But, we, normal adults, understand it’s called the food chain, and we’re at the top. We love animals, but we don’t think they have the same rights as humans. We worry about the thousand of children getting abused daily, not some damn pit bull.
I wish, just once, those PETA smokers would show up at a rodeo or bull riding event. Let them try their bullshit tactics with some people who won’t worry about being politically correct as they run their asses off.

It’s sad that the horse died, but I’m not convinced that anybody did anything malicious in that regard.
PETA is always looking for a new forum.

In no way was there anything maliciously done on the path of jockey or the filly’s owners. But PETA would have us believe that there’s been some vast cover up and that thoroughbred racing was just one vast evil empire out to do the horses harm.
When in reality nothing could be further from the truth. If they really want to be questioning what’s goin on in the world of thoroughbred racing. Then they ought to be approaching the hierarchy of the NTRA that governs the sport here in N America. NTRA has got to be doing something proactive concerning this rather than always dressing that it as just another unforeseen accident. Personally I’d like to see them move away from racing on dirt and synthetic surfaces and more racing on grass than anything else. It’d be a hell of a lot safer both horse and jockey ! But these are just my own suggestions and no one else’s.
As a youngster in the UK I use to attend the races with my father and uncles and it gave a grat insight into racing itself. In my teen years I became something of an avid gambler. Which ultimately led to me something of an anathema to members of the family for a while. Now wagering of sorts is only done on a friendly terms and for nothing more than a six pack usually .

On this particular topic alone I feell that PETA has come up way short in terms objectivity and the veracity of the argument that they’re trying to make. If anything theyr’re showing themselves to be complete imbeciles at this point without understanding what it is that actually took place at Churchill Downs.
In part they do a very good job on certain hot topic issues but on others it’s nothing more than a stance being taken to get the word out and nothing much more than that. Even when the case in point has no basis in fact. That’s why at times they really do alienate themselves with the public.

About the only thing respectable thing that PETA has going of it are some of their ads featuring a half naked Pam Anderson or Scarlett Johansson. But then again I appreciated the fact that they were at the forefront of advizing us about the problems that we’d had in th e meat packaging industry.
The USDA were telling us that we had nothing to worry about. But at the same time much of the tainted meat had gotten into food supply and chain. It was being fed to the kids in the public school systems across the country.
As to this particular topic they’re way off line and don’t what the hell they’re talking about.

PETA has always been an organization that has trouble recognizing the difference between real animal cruelty and what they perceive as animal cruelty. They clearly went overboard on this one. I love horse racing and my father has a trophy named after him for a local charity horse show.
Some PETA protesters showed up one year claiming the horses were being exploited. Exploited for a CHARITY show? That’s the day I quit paying attention to anything PETA was involved in.

First of all my apologies for taking such a long time to repsond to you. And offcourse you’re correct with reggard to PETA . As if nothing else they’ve become a publicity hungry organization that doesn’t always have the interest of animal welfare as their main concern let alone the closest thing to their hearts.
They’ve become so much of a self serving organization that at best is something of a detriment to the very cause that they say they stand for . They’ve been very proactive on certain issues that I for one happen to agree with. But on others they go completely against the grain and what I deem to complete nonesense on their part.
But then that is the way of the world as we can so tend to agree as well as disagree on certain issues. It is afterall a basic human trait that we all possess !
